The tragic suicide of Fusion Voice & Data director Nick Dutfield spurred close friend José Sanchez to get on his bike and raise money for new ICT charity Mental Health Associates.
"Nick was a great friend, and his death was a sad loss and a shock to us all. He was suffering from mental health issues and I wanted to raise money for MHA, so I set out to ride 127 miles from Flitwick in Bedfordshire to Overstrand near Cromer, in his memory," said José.
"The ride took 8 hours and 41 minutes to complete with a few much-needed stops. The weather wasn’t great and we had hours of cold wind and rain so I called upon Nick’s help a few times saying ‘come on mate, I need your help here’, singing songs we used to share together on various trips to keep me going.
"Nick was a one off in so many ways, brilliant at what he did in Comms and hilarious, crazy at times but a loyal friend, we shared over a decade in Comms together and he can never be replaced.
I managed to raise a few thousand pounds in Nick’s memory via Mental Health Associates and donations continue to come in as people hear of Nick’s passing.
"My only message to all reading this is speak to someone today, someone you haven’t spoken to in a while or a friend, colleague, parent and ask them how they are. My heart felt prayers go out to Lisa, Molly and Charlie, Nick’s family, at this difficult time."
